The Eye Opener Invitational Cross Country Meet was held on Saturday at the Milliken Center here in Spartanburg. The meet features over 100 high schools participating from three different states - SC, NC & GA. It's the biggest cross country event in the state each year! Congratulations to our Viking harriers who competed in the Eye Opener this morning. Despite unseasonably warm weather we were able to establish 16 personal best times (9 boys and 7 girls). Most importantly, however, we competed well as a team. Our Varsity Girls won the Championship Division, besting the field of 45 schools! Top Vikings were Ensley Dyar (20:09), Nora Gray (21:23), Lily Dargis (22:04), Jane Harp (22:12), Annabelle Davis (22:14), Ella Smith (22:43), and Emmy Dyar (23:31). Ensley was the 6th overall finisher! Our Junior Varsity Girls placed 20th out of 43 teams and were led by Mae Cutler (28:17), Sydney Okolichany (28:50), and Jasmin Stevens (29:04). Our Varsity Boys placed 6th out of 51 schools in the Championship Division. The boys were led by Carter Merchant (17:44), Eric Battocchio (17:47), Hyrum Grinder (18:35), Ben Schafer (18:45), Riley Hansen (18:46), Miani Crosland (18:51), and Levi Eler (19:34). Our Junior Varsity Boys placed 12th out of 63 Schools and were led by Sam Strickland (20:27), David Fisher (20:43), and Ford Brown (21:04). Individual results are attached.
