Several of our Vikings experienced wins over the past week including women's tennis, men's & women's swimming, JV volleyball, and a combination team of Freshman & JV football; but the win for our varsity football team will be one of those talked about for years to come. Due to lightning in the area, the start time was pushed back until 7:46pm and then once started the game was stopped with a little less than 5 minutes left in the 1st quarter due to an approaching storm. After almost two hours of rain, thunder and lightning, the game finally resumed after 10pm with both teams agreeing to finish the 1st quarter and then play 8 minute quarters the rest of the way. Our Vikings held a 7-0 lead at the half, but Greenwood answered in the 3rd quarter to tie it up 7-7 heading into the final quarter. That was when the real fireworks began. The Vikings struck first with a TD (but missed PAT) to lead 13-7. Greenwood proceeded to score with 3 minutes remaining in the game and converting their PAT to take a 13-14 lead. Our Vikings marched right back down the field and on 3rd down & 16 hit a WR across the middle for the go-ahead touchdown. The 2-point conversion was also good, making the score 21-14. Greenwood's last drive was thwarted with a defensive sack on the quarterback to end the game at 12:15am Saturday morning. It took almost 5 hours to complete, but I'm sure it was well worth the delay for our players, coaches and the small group of fans who stuck it out.
