GIRLS LACROSSE STARTS SEASON STRONG WITH BACK-TO-BACK WINS
The Spartanburg High School girls lacrosse teams are off to a hot start, picking up four wins in their first two games of the season.
Season Opener vs. Lexington (2/27)
Both JV and Varsity came away with victories against Lexington High School in Friday night’s season openers.
JV: SHS 5 – Lexington 4
Rowen Green led the JV offense with 4 goals, while Eliose Hammet added 1 goal. Goalkeeper Alice Powel recorded a career-high 14 saves.
Varsity: SHS 17 – Lexington 10
The Varsity squad defeated the defending state champions in a high-scoring affair. Evers Morris led the attack with 8 goals, 2 assists, and 4 draw controls. Virginia Delaney added 3 goals and 5 draw controls, and Saffy Evans contributed 3 goals and 4 assists. On defense, Ellie Kocisko recorded 3 caused turnovers, 2 ground balls, and even a goal. Abby Hampton made 9 saves in goal, and Addie Usry notched her 100th career point.
The Vikings kicked off region play the following Wednesday against Eastside.
Region Opener vs. Eastside (3/4)
Spartanburg continued their dominance in region play with decisive wins over Eastside.
JV: SHS 8 – Eastside 2
Varsity: SHS 21 – Eastside 1
The varsity girls lacrosse team kicked off region play with a 22-1 win over Eastside. 11 different Vikings found the back of the net in the win. Evers Morris led the way with 4 goals and Saffy Evans and Bylthe Lemonds each had hat tricks. Brice Krydynski and Evers Morris combined for 16 draw controls.
After the game, two seniors were recognized for breaking SHS career records:
Evers Morris set new records for career assists and points, surpassing the previous record held by current coach Lanie Graves.
Abby Hampton set the SHS goalie record for career saves, previously held by Olivia Summerfield.
The Lady Vikings will take their strong start on the road this weekend, facing St. James and Carolina Forest in Lower State 5A action.
